Investor Roundtable

The first Value Investor Roundtable took place on 15th November 2017 at Grosvenor House on Park Lane, London. The next event will take place on 13th November 2018 at the same venue and attendance is by invitation only.

The format of this half day event will be for five fund managers to give short presentations to small groups of fund investors to explain their approach before being open to questions from attendees. There will be breakfast, a short coffee break and a networking lunch at the event.

Schroders Value Team

Nick Kirrage

Specialist value investor Nick Kirrage is co-head of the Global Value team at Schroders, who manage over £12bn of clients’ assets. Along with co-manager Kevin Murphy he runs the Schroder UK Income, Schroder UK Recovery and Schroder ISF Global Recovery Funds. Nick started his investment career in 2001 within Schroders’ Pan European research team, having previously been an analyst responsible for Transport, Metals, Mining, Aerospace and Defence sectors. He is a CFA Charterholder and holds a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Bristol University. Charles Heenan

Charles co-manages the Kennox Strategic Value Fund with Geoff Legg. He has 25 years’ experience in global stock markets. Charles began his career with Brockhouse & Cooper in Montreal, Canada, becoming a CFA charter holder in 1995. In 1997, Charles joined the Emerging Markets and Asia Pac Ex Japan team at First State Investments (called Stewart Ivory at the time) and worked as a key member of this team before leaving to start a focused, independent, global value investment management company – Kennox.

Geoff Legg

Geoff Legg

Geoff co-manages the Kennox Strategic Value Fund with Charles Heenan and has been running the portfolio since it was launched in 2007.  He has over 15 years’ experience in financial markets having previously worked as a management consultant before qualifying as an actuary with Towers Perrin.  Geoff holds a first class joint honours Maths and Physics degree from Edinburgh University and a postgraduate MSc in Financial Mathematics.

Nigel Waller

Nigel is one of the founding partners of OP. He was previously at MLIM for 13 years. He was a director and portfolio manager on the global team. At MLIM he was also a member of the emerging markets and European teams in London and, from 1997 to 1999, the Asia team in Singapore. He graduated from City University. He is Chief Investment Officer. He co-manages the global equity portfolios and contributes to the overall investment selection.

Andrew Goodwin cropped

Andrew Goodwin

Andrew joined OP in March 2013. He had previously been employed by SVG Capital in London for seven years managing mainly European equity portfolios. Before joining SVG, he held portfolio management positions at Sovereign Asset Management, American Express Asset Management and Phillips & Drew Fund Management. He graduated from Cambridge University. He co-manages the global equity portfolios and contributes to the overall investment selection.

Jonathan Mills

Jonathan founded Metropolis Capital and has co-managed the Metropolis global equity strategy since its inception in 2008 and the Metropolis Valuefund since its launch in 2011. Jonathan is also Chairman of Metropolis International which he founded with Simon Denison-Smith in 1994. Metropolis International is a media and software group which was built through over 30 acquisitions of private businesses, applying a value investing approach to each transaction. Returns to seed investors in Metropolis International were 30%+* per annum under Jonathan’s tenure as CEO from 1994 to 2011. Jonathan continues to act as Chairman of the group but has no additional executive responsibilities. Prior to founding Metropolis International, Jonathan worked for Bain & Company as a Strategy Consultant and then for Schroders in their M & A team. He graduated from Oxford University with a First Class Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.

Simon Denison-Smith

Simon founded Metropolis Capital and has co-managed the Metropolis global equity strategy since its inception in 2008 and the Metropolis Valuefund since its launch in 2011. Simon is also a non-executive Director of Metropolis International, which he helped Jonathan Mills to set up in 1994. Metropolis International is a media and software group which was built through over 30 acquisitions of private businesses, applying a strict valuation discipline on each transaction. Simon continues to act as a non-executive Director of the group but has no additional executive responsibilities. Prior to this, Simon was a strategy consultant with Bain & Co and Kalchas. He also founded Rave Technologies, a software business that services clients across a wide range of industries. Simon sold this business to Northgate IS PLC in 2006, delivering a 32% per annum return to Rave’s principal investor. Simon graduated from Bristol University with a 2:1 in Economics.


Orbis Global Equity

Ben Preston

Ben is one of six key stock pickers for the Global Equity Fund at Orbis Investments, which he joined in the summer of 2000 just as the TMT bubble of the late 1990s was beginning to unwind. Orbis is a contrarian manager, using a disciplined research process to identify shares trading well below their long term intrinsic value, usually because of some temporary setback. Ben initially began researching stocks in the consumer sector but has gradually expanded his coverage and now leads the Global Sector team, in which industry specialists research stock market opportunities globally. Ben graduated with a First Class degree in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Oxford in 1998 and had a brief stint as an analyst at an M&A boutique before joining Orbis. He is a CFA charterholder.
